What do we do to achieve our objectives? [Image]

The Society holds three business-luncheon meetings a year--one generally in October, the second in celebration of George Washington's birthday, and the third, the annual meeting in June held in Southern Pines per the Society by-laws. Our ladies are invited to attend these meetings.

We hold at least 4 Managers Meetings a year to conduct any Society business and send delegates to the annual General Society meetings.

We participate in 3 wreath-laying patriotic memorials. The first, the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, Currie, N.C. each February; secondly, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Greensboro, N.C. in March; and thirdly, the Battle of Kings Mountain, Grove, S.C. in October.

We are involved each year in a scholarship program which goes to an undergraduate senior or junior concentrating his or her studies in the Founding Era of U.S. History at a college or university in North Carolina. This scholarship award is in the amount of $1,000.00 as a contribution toward preparation of a history major in this area.

Each Fourth of July our members staff a booth at the North Carolina Capitol Fourth of July celebration. In this booth we display our collection of eleven American historic flags and distribute Society literature.

Also as part of the Fourth of July celebration our members solicit the cooperation of their area churches in conjunction with the bell ringing ceremony celebrating the birth of our nation. This requires the tolling of 13 strokes at 2:00 P.M. eastern Standard Time on July 4th. To help coordinate this effort our Society obtained a proclamation from the governor of North Carolina proclaiming this event.

We have developed a liaison and are supportive of the North Carolina Society of the Children of the Revolution.

Occasionally we lend support to special projects such as historical. books for public school libraries, and support of projects of interest at the Revolutionary War sites.
